Feeding the Babe

We are transitioning to a new phase at dinner time. PJ used to put his arms out and his head tilted up like a little birdie ready for the spoon to come and go as we were able. Now PJ wants food his food more immediately and he wants to do it himself. We had been giving him some food for him to pinch and deposit in his mouth on his own, but we were still managing the spoon for most of the meal. Well, tonight PJ fed himself for nearly all of the meal. He still can't get the pureed food on a spoon and will allow for one of us to help; but as soon as the spoon is loaded he takes over. Not only does he like to manage his spoon, but a bite or two from my fork is even more exciting.  Since the fork is more weapon like, I still hold onto it. He was a mess by the end of the meal but actually got a lot inside his mouth too.
